In the third Test against England, Ashwin became the second-fastest player to reach 500 wickets.
It was only fitting that Ravichandran Ashwin climbed Mount 500 while the heat was on. When the England hitters, headed by Ben Duckett, went on a rampage in their first innings, Ashwin lobbed one up from round-the-wicket to see off the other big hitter Zak Crawley, beating him in the air sweeping, while Rajat Patidar did the rest.
Ashwin became only the second Indian to reach 500 Test wickets after Anil Kumble, who finished with 619. His teammates crowded around him, exchanging bear embraces while head coach Rahul Dravid and the rest of the support staff clapped from the Niranjan Shah stadium dressing room.
