Every year on April 15th, Himachal Day is observed to honor the formation of India’s state of Himachal Pradesh. On this day in 1948, Himachal Pradesh was constituted as a union territory by the merger of 30 princely states. Later, on January 25, 1971, it was recognized as the 18th state of the Indian Union. The day is significant because it marks the start of a new administrative entity and represents the merger of different princely states into a one integrated territory.
