If it was a world without the coronavirus pandemic, Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani’s Laxmmi Bomb would have released on Eid. But thanks to the unusual circumstances, there hasn’t been any film release in the last two months. And there is no sight of theatres re-opening any time soon. Given the scenario, trade news is abuzz with rumours that the makers of Laxmmi Bomb are planning to release it online.
A report stated, “It’s true that the film will now be premiering on an OTT platform. Although there was a bit of disagreement initially, everyone is on the same page now. The movie will indeed be releasing online.” The report further stated that the official announcement hasn’t being made as the team requires a month to prepare the project. A bit of post production work remains and the team is waiting for the lockdown to get over.
What’s more, the producers have collectively decided on involving minimum number of people to get their film ready, post lockdown, following guidelines of social distancing. So the film will have to wait atleast for a month after the lockdown is lifted, before it can release on the OTT platform. The makers haven’t finalised a release date yet.
Despite being stuck, Laxmmi Bomb has fetched the producers a lot of money already, mentions the report. “Usually digital rights of a big film get sold at record prices of Rs 60-70 crore max. But since this film won’t have a theatrical release and will be straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price. It has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crores at the box-office, despite a clash with Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less,” explained the source in the report.
So all Akshay Kumar fans will soon get to watch him on the OTT platform with Laxmmi Bomb.
