Alia Bhatt said that she can only enjoy privileges because her parents Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan struggled to succeed.
Actor Alia Bhatt, who was recently seen in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, recently discussed her father filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s battle with alcoholism and also opened up about her family’s challenging financial situation in the past. Alia talked about her mother Soni Razdan’s hard work and dedication in the industry, despite not achieving mainstream leading lady status.
In an interview with Elle, Alia said, “He (Mahesh Bhatt) had a bunch of flops at one point; he barely had any money, and he was battling an addiction to alcohol.” The actor said that Mahesh eventually gave up drinking. “My parents struggled to get to a point where I could enjoy their privilege. I do recognise that,” she added.
Alia revealed that her mother started her career from scratch without any industry connections. She pursued her dreams even though she wasn’t fluent in Hindi. Despite not becoming a mainstream heroine, she worked hard. She added that Soni took on various acting opportunities in television, film, and theatre, regardless of the scale of the role, showing her dedication. Alia said, “She (Soni Razdan) had no connection to films and went from theatres to film studios to television studios to audition. She also couldn’t speak Hindi well, so that was difficult for her. She never became a mainstream heroine. But she worked very hard.
The actor also said that as a child, she was very sensitive and used to take films very seriously. She said, “I didn’t want to see my mother being pushed out of a window or see her suffering. That wasn’t something I wanted to engage with.”
Alia recently made her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone, and the actor is yet to announce her next film.
