MrBeast, a popular YouTuber who has helped 1,000 visually impaired individuals restore their eyesight, stated that he has astigmatism, a condition that causes fuzzy vision.
Jimmy Donaldson, known by his YouTube channel moniker MrBeast, which has over 236 million followers, said in a post on X that his vision was “super blurry” and that he had to squint to see well. The YouTuber stated that he had “got his eyes check” and was diagnosed with astigmatism.
“This may seem strange, but I assumed objects far away looking fuzzy were normal lol. I had my eyes tested, and it appears that I have a terrible stigma. I just started wearing contacts, and wow. My eyesight is three times better, and I can open my eyes normally,” he wrote.
What is Astigmatism?
Astigmatism is a frequent refractive defect in the eyes that produces blurry vision. It happens when the cornea (the transparent front surface of the eye) or the lens inside the eye are irregularly shaped, causing light to be improperly focused on the retina. In a normal eye, the cornea and lens have a smooth curvature, allowing light to be precisely focused on the retina, resulting in clear vision. However, with astigmatism, the cornea or lens is bent more in one direction than the other, like the shape of a football rather than a basketball.
