It appears that Disney is finally advancing with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise after years of speculation and conjecture. Fans are in for an unexpected treat, though, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer has disclosed that two films are simultaneously in development.
“It’s two different movies,” revealed Bruckheimer (via Entertainment Weekly). “We hope to get ‘em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.” As it turns out, the folks behind the Pirates series have been actively trying to get these movies under development, and now they’re both in the scriptwriting process.
The first of these films will be a total revamp of the series that Bruckheimer is producing alongside Jeff Nathanson (Young Woman and the Sea) authoring the script. What’s more thrilling is that the writing looks to be going nicely. The producer stated that he “thinks [Nathanson] has cracked it. His third act is incredible. We simply need clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he crafted a terrific, great third act.”
