Only a few months ago, it seemed that the worst phase of COVID-19 was over. Positive cases were at an all-time low and the death rate too was down. Hence, film theatres reopened and the industry gave a collective sigh of relief. But it was all over too soon as the second wave proved to be deadlier than the first. The mortality rate across the country is at an all-time high. The entire nation is in the grips of either partial or total lockdown in different areas. Taking note of this, several filmmakers have again decided that it’s no longer feasible for them to wait for the theatres to open. They are hopping on to the OTT bandwagon to release their projects. One such film is Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2. The comedy, which stars Paresh Rawal, Meezaan Jaffrey, Pranitha Subhash and is Shilpa Shetty’s comeback film is also headed for an online release. The news of it’s OTT release came right after the reports that Bhoot Police, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor and Yami Gautam may also go for an OTT release.
Well, this does seem like the better way for filmmakers to continue the entertainment for those staying at home during the lockdown.
