Last year we lost some of the most celebrated artistes from the Indian film industry. Two of them had put Indian on the map with their relentless work in their respective fields. Costume designer Bhanu Athiya and actor Irrfan were remembered along with artistes like Sean Connery, Chadwick Boseman, Helen McCrory, Cicely Tyson, Olivia De Havilland, Michael Apted, Cloris Leachman and more.
Bhanu Athiya had won an Academy Award for her work in the film Gandhi in 1982 and whereas Irrfan contributed to world cinema with works like Life of Pi, Jurassic Park, Spiderman, Inferno and many more.
The Academy paid a heartwarming tribute to these artistes and wrote, “It was a year of profound loss in so many ways. At the Academy, we remember these accomplished filmmakers and artists.”
