Major upset in the CCI International Squash, Ramit Tandon of India (world No 201) beat top seed Borja Golan (No 18) of Spain in a gruelling five-set thriller. It was a seesaw battle that lasted for 89 minutes during which time Tandon fought hard to beat the fancied Spaniard.
Tandon, who was a wild card entrant, won the first game 11-8 but lost the next two 7-11 and 6-11, before bouncing back with 11-6 and 11-8 scores in the final two games.
Tandon’s win has enthused experts and organisers. “This is big for Ramit and for Indian squash. It will give a huge boost to his confidence as well as his world ranking. Superb performance, beating Borja in five games…”, Ritwik Bhattacharya, a former national champion and a promoter of the event, said.
