CSK wins its first encounter against MI away from home.
Despite a century by Rohit Sharma The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Mumbai Indians by 20 runs on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Matheesha Pathirana was CSK’s standout bowler, taking four wickets.
Earlier, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first against CSK. Shivam Dube and Gaikwad contributed half-centuries to enable the latter reach 206/4.
Both of the IPL’s most successful teams, with five titles each, are experiencing a tectonic shift in leadership, with Hardik Pandya taking over from Rohit Sharma at MI and Ruturaj Gaikwad succeeding Dhoni at CSK, but there is nothing to suggest that their intense rivalry would necessitate such a shift.
