As the hosts attempt to reach a goal of 170, Knight Riders spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine stifled the Mumbai Indians hitters in the opening ten overs. In the ninth over, MI were reduced to 61/4 as Varun Chakravarthy and Naman Dhir were caught by Narine, who also dismissed Rohit Sharma. In the second over, Mitchell Starc removed Ishan Kishan from the game. Starc went on to have an incredible game, helping KKR win by 24 runs by getting three wickets in the second-to-last over. At the Wankhede Stadium, the Australian pacer concluded with figures of 4/33 and KKR won their first game against MI.
